door replacement surprise

Hi,

I'm replacing a bedroom door assembly, and I ran into a bit of a surprise.

When I took off the old moulding, I found out that there was no attempt at shimming or the like. The moulding was the only thing locating the jamb. It was nailed into the stud and stapled to the jamb.

I didn't much like finding that, but I wondered if the door might have come that way -- with the moulding already stapled to the jamb.

Has anyone seen anything like that?

Thanks,

hj

Real cheapo stuff sometimes but if there is already drywall in place need to attach the casings afterwards.

You can buy the complete door with moldings already stapled to the jamb..

Sounds like it was just the installer didn't know what the heck he was doing or didn't care.

Stuff like that happens more than people realize, because they know most people don't know the proper way of building..

It's a split jamb, and yes it is common practice by the builder or whoever is doing the trim and doors at the cheapest bid to throw them up that way.
