Insurance went down

Called insurance company today to put insurance on my 2017 F350 Platinum 6.7 from my 2012 f350 Lariat 6.7.
Same trucks, 2017 is way more loaded, way more expensive, same coverage except I added the brand new truck for 5years option. The insurance is $200 cheaper. I'll take it!

I experienced the same. The insurance agent told me that the insurance company isn't looking so much at the cost to repair or replace the truck as that is a finite value. They are looking at the safety of the people inside. Medical bills are what cost them big money.

That's what she said was probably why it was cheaper.

Yeah, as said the bigger bulk of the cost in your insurance rate is not the truck, but the medical. There are a TON of factors that go into policy rating, but medical is a main one. My rate went up about $20/ month coming from a 2001 F-250. My wifes lease is up and she is going from an Edge to an Escape so we will see how this all shakes out. I am hoping the rate stays competitive because shopping around and switching is a real PITA!

Yep. I traded in my personal 2011 JK (worth 20k retail), and bought the truck through my company (commercial insurance), and my insurance only went up $30 per month. Thanks for this thread -- now I understand why.

Full coverage with decent maximums for medical claims and property damage is $1038 a year on my 2005 F150. For my new truck that is on its way (I gave the VIN number to my insurance agent to get quote) it will be $851 a year. Like others have said, they said it was the safety aspect.

So everyone else's went down a couple hundred or so per year and yours went up $360 / year?

If my insurance went up 360/year for anything, I'd be pissed.

I am paying $1800 a year. This is the most expensive vehicle to insure. Crazy.

My Lambo is cheaper.

Great news! I wondered what the cost would be to insure the new truck.
It won't be an issue for me for a while anyway. Going on 5 weeks and no build date yet. Good thing I'm not in a rush for it.

For the next 5 years they will reimburse for $$ value of my 2017.
She said basically they will buy me a new truck if I right it off. What I didn't get into (because I was giddy about $200 a year cheaper) if that means a replacement "new truck" even if the price of a 2023 is WAY higher then I paid for my 2017 or if it is just something valued at the price I paid.
Either way, I don't plan on finding out.

Same here. Insurance on my new F350 is less than my 2011 F150 was. After a little over a month, they haven't changed their mind yet!
