86 F150 fuel pump question 5.0 EFI
The truck suddenly died and the pump wont activate when the key is turned, I'll list what I've done to avoid a lecture on punctuation...
Replaced fuel pump relay, no change
Tried to ground the pump at test connector, nothing happened key on or off
Unplugged relay and power probed the pump wire and it ran so connections are good from plug to pump
Checked connector at pump and getting 12 volts with key on
also, the red (eec) and yellow (ign) wires are allways hot with or without the key on-is this right? Im stumped can anyone help please

For reference for discussions I'll copy the diagram here.
First, which pump are you testing/probing - the in-line pump or the in-tank pump?
By powering the pump, whichever one, you've proven that the wiring, pump, the inertia switch, and the ground are good. But, you should not have power at the pump all the time - especially if it isn't running. So, did you check with a volt meter or a test light? I'm confused.

Unplug the relay again, and take a small jumper and jump the yellow wire relay terminal to the pink/black(the one going to the inertia switch and the pump). See if the pump runs.
The reason to do the above: You tested the yellow wire with a meter and no load, which gave you 12v. But you need to check all wiring under load. That's when you will run into problems if there are any.

Come to find out O'Reillys so me a relay that apparently didn't work, there are 5 pins when the original has 4. I plugged the original one back in and it works but when the keys off the pump kicks on intermittent, pull the plug wires to one side it stops so apparently the plugs worn-thanks for the responses and by the way Ebay has original 4 pin ford relays for 24.95 free shipping
