if it has autocrap glow plugs in it, they most likely burned out after the first or second start cycle.

So we should be safe? The guy said he's only gave it a little mist two times. Because it has been cold and wouldn't move.

As for using starting fluid just don't let the glow plugs heat up, leave key off, give it a quick squirt then when you go to start just turn it over immediately do not let the glow plugs have a chance to get hot.

i would not do that. if ether is to be used at all, i would disable the glow plugs by disconnecting the controller or relay.

If a turbo is mounted on this non turbo engine will it start easier? Also what is the cost of putting a turbo on or how difficult is it to do it without hiring someone?

Turbos do not aid in starting. You can find kits proved anywhere between 100 (junkyard) and 1500 (new), and anywhere on between on Craigslist.

Very easy to add a turbo setup that comes complete.

Do you have to do anything very special to the engine to make it house the turbo? Like a different head or new holes for bolts?

nope. bolt it on and turn the fuel up a bit. i would add an exhaust temperature gauge before turning up the fuel though.

turbo install is not that hard to do, i would say the hardest part is getting the old exhaust pipes unbolted from the manifolds without breaking the studs.

Would that require restudding? So the turbo mounts to the exhaust port? Is that what you're saying?

no the banks turbo mounts to a pedestal that is bolted to the back of the passenger side head. not sure how the ATS mounts, i never messed with one of them. the stock exhaust "Y" pipe gets removed and replaced with the manufacturers manifold to turbo up pipes. then the down pipe comes off the turbo and connects to the exhaust pipes going out of the back of the truck.

Oh, ok. It makes more sense now. So a kit brand new or slightly used should contain all the parts needed.
