1977 Shortbox 4x4 F150 - Desireable?

Are shortbox 4x4 single cabs hard to find in this generation of trucks? Is the shorter wheelbase desireable? Do people shun them or are they popular?

Any short wheel base is desirable IMO. However, most 4x4 SWB trucks have been beat to death anymore. Guys like them for 4 wheelin, mudding etc. Finding one that hasn't been cobbled and patched, modified, beat, hammered is rare anymore. Not saying they don't exist, but are getting few and far between. I got DAMN lucky when I found my 78 that I bought from the original owner...........

People who don't use pickups "as pickups" find them desirable. Those of us who use them find them worthless.

2wd sb cabs and boxes are easy to come by and direct swap. And usually in much better shape. 90% of the time it takes 2 trucks to make 1 when it comes to 4wd.

Paid a lot for mine. No rust, straight, nice interior, AC, and manual 4 speed. As stated, finding one that's not beaten to death is tough.

Everyone cringes when I tell them I intend to modify it and use it as a trail truck.

I halfway agree. A shortbox wouldn't be much use to me, for my truck is oft piled as full as possible with firewood, or has a 4 wheeler, boards, etc in the box, as well as a tool box. A shorty with a toolbox has about 4.5' of bed space.

That said, shorties are easier to maneuver and are pretty neat. My solution? Have the big highboy for pickup duty, and the bronco for all the other stuff.

[QUOTE] I just picked this one up in October for $1500. 400, auto, runs and drives great. Bought it for the frame to swap under my 59 F100.
