Heater Core Replacement

I recently replaced my heater core on 2001 F250. Would be a simple job if it weren't for the quick connects on the hoses. Has anyone found a tool to take these apart on the truck where space is limited?

If you are replacing the hoses I just cut the plastic catch part and pulled it off. I've seen Youtube video where they used needlenose.
