6.8 seized from lack of oil

Autozone Surefire engine complete long block, minus oil pan, oil pick up tube and valve covers.
Cost $4000 including core. $960 core charge. They see it this way 45k+ for a new truck or 4k for an engine, easy for them to choose, beside the truck has a solid drivetrain, the whole front end was rebuilt, less than 15k, tranny thou stock is also really strong, if they get another 100k out of the truck it was money well spent. That truck engine and tranny has never been touched, they got their money out of it and then some.

That's pretty consistent with lack of oil. The parts looked like they got really hot. It had to be knocking for a while though. It ran for a pretty decent amount of time if you were able to get coloring on the pistons.
That brought back a lot of memories. In a past life, I used to strip down blown up engines to the block and look at what failed on them.

The smell of a burnt up engine is something you'll never forget. Much like the smell of bourbon street in the summer...

Literally 6hrs removal install, what took time was to actually wait for parts 3days total, for oil pick up tube, oil pan valve cover gaskets, lower intake manifold gasket, COP, oil cooler and miscelenious little parts needed for replacement. Broke in the engine maybe 2hr process to make sure everything was right. Truck was picked up on Friday so we'll see how she does in a couple of days before I do the first oil change.

Truck just hit 25K on the "new" engine and is doing great picked some more MPG's according to the driver. Just a bit concern it's using 3qts of oil every 5K oil change intervals? Just like it did with the old mill, no oily exhaust either, the pcv valve is a new Motorcraft one? What would cause this much oil consumption or is this normal for the 6.8 2v?

My dads 03' V10 always drank more synthetic oil than blend. Always seemed to use the more Mobil 1 between changes than other oils. On my 04' brand of synthetic doesn't seem to matter. You could try a blend 5w30 or maybe even a high mileage 5w30 and see if consumption changes. The high mileage oils are usually on the higher end of the viscosity scale for a 5w30. Could just use a blend and do 3k-4k miles OCIs.
