MY PICKUP DEMOLISHED by DRUNK DRIVER
Friends,
As some of you know, I've been "returning to stock" a one-owner, very low mileage, 1986 F-250 XLT Lariat diesel for about 3 months. - We finally, finished the "restoration" about 1430 yesterday & it was struck while parked in front of my cottage about 2230 last evening & (very likely) totaled by a 2015 Chevrolet truck.
Whether it is totaled or not (or if it can be repaired by putting a complete new "front clip" on the truck & repainting it) depends on whether the frame is bent and/or whether the 6.9 engine is actually damaged or NOT.
Note: My 1982 Mercedes 300CD was totaled during the same incident. - It is NOT repairable.
(The drunk hit both vehicles at an estimated 60-70MPH in a 30MPH zone.)
NOT a really fun weekend.
yours, satx

JayFinAZ,
THANKS.
Actually, I was watching the Olympic Games on TV & was about 100 feet away at the time.
The LUCKIEST lady in San Antonio was a pedestrian who was on the sidewalk, saw what was about to happen, vaulted a stone wall into a neighbor's yard & then witnessed the accident. - She could easily been killed but got not a scratch, though she was TERRIFIED by her "close call" with serious injury or death.

That sucks man. Glad no one was hurt but that is still a huge financial loss. I hate the low kbb values that are nowhere near actual market price. Get a scratch and the thing is totaled. If you buy it back and fix it yourself the title is funky and you have no resale value. I hope everything works out.

Ford F834,
Fwiw, I would happily BUY a low mileage/one owner 1986 XLT Lariat 6.9 in good condition at KBB prices for the purpose of resale at a NICE profit.
Between Steve & I we have probably at least 100 hours of labor in removing/replacing everything that showed signs of wear, wasn't "factory" or wasn't "approved dealer installed options" with NOS Ford items, NOT counting parts cost of well over 1,000.oo.
When we finished everything the PU was essentially as "sold at retail" new & had just less than 55,000 actual miles.
"Color me" utterly DISGUSTED & HEARTBROKEN.

mountain dewd,
Fwiw, I had planned to take it for my adult daughter in Austin to see later today (Sunday), as she was "getting tired of hearing about it.", "- - - - are you ever going to finish it?" and then frequently, "I want to drive it."

As he said have all paperwork in hand and if you have pictures of work done along the way all the better.

pgg00; FuzzFace2,
Thanks, gents.
His insurance company, as of yet, has not "accepted liability" for his unlawful conduct. - I hope to NOT have to sue him/the insurance company.
I'm quite sure that I'll never get paid for the many hours of cleaning, polishing, waxing, etc. that my friends & I spent getting things "right". = For example, Steve's girlfriend spent nearly 2 full days shampooing carpets, seats, etc. until the 30 year old cloth interior LOOKS new.

Unfortunately, You will not be compensated for you're blood, sweat and tears in labor unless your insurance is through an insurer such as Hagerty, etc. and/or has an appraised value. I am glad to hear that nobody was injured...."Metal can be bent, but bones should never be". I respond on a daily basis to MVA's due to DUI's and TWD's (texting while driving) and it sickens me that people get behind the wheel of a potential weapon with no regard to the numerous consequences that can occur.

That makes it worse yet. It's one thing to miss it yourself, but having others share your sadness makes it a rough go.

WhatsAChevy,
TRUE. = Inasmuch as I've NOT had any losses (other than hail damage to the roof/glass of a car) in more than 4 decades, I had "regular insurance" on the car/PU.
Fwiw, Steve's GF, Debbie, did some of the interior cleaning with a toothbrush in one hand & a vacuum cleaner hose in the other. = Like I said, the "detailing" was really DETAILED.
