Talk to some hot rodders or local race car drivers. They will know of a local exhaust shop that will remove your cat(s).

Keep in mind the bad cat is worth money, so make sure you keep it or else use it as a bargaining chip for the price of your exhaust job. Mine had 4 cats and he gave me $100 credit -- I paid only $100 cash (no receipt) for a guy to spend 90minutes cutting out my cats and then custom bending pipes and welding them in. They even welded in 4 new bungs for my O2 sensors.

Pretty painless really.

Took a 30-pack and the X to my mechanic. We hooked it up to his scanner and monitored O2 sensors, and cylinder misfires, fuel pulse width, MAF, throttle position, etc.. Everything checks out perfectly.

There are few hot rodders, and no race cars that I am aware of in this podunk town. And there's only 2 muffler shops! I wonder if someone stole my converter, if he would straight pipe until mt cat arrives?

Were you monitoring when it was acting up or when it was running properly?

It pretty much runs fine until you tow. We checked it at idle and under moderate load. All checks out.

Cat disappeared from from my V10 Ex over a year ago. Took a few days to get used to a different exhaust odor - haven't looked back since. There's no after-cat O2 sensor on my '01 so no CEL to worry about.

Only problem is... thinking about moving to Maine in a year or so. They might not like the fact the cat is gone...
