500 or 600...that is the question

I am working on a 86 F150 with a 302 that is currently fuel injected. Truck has been sitting up for awhile now and rodents had moved in to the intake like it was a condo in florida. Ate up all kinds of wiring and even part of the airbox and as it has sat up for however long, the fuel system is shot. I have to replace both tanks, both in tank pumps were shot and lord knows what condition the rest of its in so I am going to a carb. Using the formula my engine needs no more than 500 cfm but I may want to build the motor some but I don't think I will go so extreme that I will ever need a 600 but wanted some feedback to as if the formula isn't necessarily the gospel when it comes to this. As of right now the only upgrade is the weiand stealth intake. The exhaust is shot as well so I will use that as an excuse to put headers on it but have not decided on which type yet either.

Thanks. I hate to waste money and wanted to hear from someone with more knowledge than I about it. Using that calculator I will never build anything big enough with a 302 that will warrant a 600

I had an Edelbrock 600 on my 302 and it ran fine. It was a used one a buddy of mine gave me off his Mustang. I rebuilt it. tuned it and wore it out as a daily driver. I then got a brand new Edelbrock 500 and honestly can't tell the difference at lower rpm between the two. Gas mileage seems the same as well. The 600 did seem to have more power when putting your foot in it to merge in traffic etc.
