I don't know if the Crown Vic's rear end will fit under the truck or not. One way to find out though!

I got the front suspension out of the truck and i removed the fuel line, brake line , and the line from the charcoal canister. then I started on the crown vic, I cut about a foot of the frame out of each side, then cut the sleeves out, then timed the extra metal off, and finally ground them down smooth. they measure 1-1/4" so I guess I need to buy an inch and a quarter bit somewhere..

crown vic

piece of frame

metal chop saw to cut it

ground down

This is the best detail I've seen of this particular step. Thanks.

No problem, the worst part is when your almost through the frame it pinches the blade. I cut probably 80% of it with a grinder, but it wouldn't fit by the engine so I finished the cut with a reciprocating saw.

Nice project, nice truck. Brings back memories. I had a '79 F100 Explorer, same color. Does your truck have a 360?

I'm about to do the same swap to my 74 F100 with a 360 and 3 on the tree.

I bought my CV front end from a junkyard and while it came with all of the hardware, they didn't include the section of the frame that has those sleeves in there. Not too big of a deal, I can just make some on a lathe, but I was wondering if you could tell me how long they are so I know how long to make mine.

Great documentation in this thread by the way, will be following it closely!

The 2003-2011 rear axle is too wide at ~67"

Nice progress. Truck looks great.

Also for anyone after the frame sleeves in the crown vic frame, they are only welded at the top of the frame. So if you have a cut off wheel on your grinder you can cut right around the top of the sleeve and they'll slide right out.

Once you get the the powersteering line I found a pressure line from a 2000 ford focus fit the bill nicely with very minor adjustments to the bends. I don't remember the exact part numbers but I have pictures of them in my thread.

I'm keeping the motor for now, if anything, down the road I would do a 390 build or something like that. Id rather keep it simple with an older motor.
A 02 or older Crown Vic rear will fit. I have a 2000 cvpi rear in mine. It's been a while but I think it's like 1/4" narrower than the stock 9"...I still fit a 22x11 under the bedside.

For the sleeves I used a unibit and then opened it up with a die grinder until they slipped in.

I thought the rear was too wide, ill have to find an older one at a junk yard or on craigslist, but that'll be down the road. I also heard 1995 explorer rear will fit.
