1995 F250 Common Problems

Hey guys. First post here. I just picked up a 95 F250 2WD with the 5.8 in it. Its showing about 270k miles. Runs pretty strong so far. As far as I can tell it has the original transmission. I paid $1,200 for it.

I was wondering if there are some common problems or weaknesses with this truck that I should look out for. This will not be a daily driver. Just something to take out when I need a truck instead of my car.

At that age if it has not been replaced pull the PCM Computer out and replace the caps before they leak onto the board.
That is what I did with my 93 & 95.

"Common problems" are a GM thing.

Just make sure you have the right fluids in the right places and only the right places and all will be well 99.999% of the time. Other than that just be willing to change wear items as they wear out, it's a 20yo truck.

I've only had 1 major problem with my 95 f250. Being a Missouri truck for its whole life its got rust, which caused the rear tank to start to leak. Luckly the tanks are cheap and I hear it isn't a hard job to replace.

There's parts of the country where steel tanks are a 10-15year wear item.

Yeah, around here the problem with '95 f-series trucks is they don't have floor pans or cab corners.

I had a friend who referred to that stuff as, "More junk from the General". LOL, he was right.

Any "simple" job on any old vehicle has to be taken on expecting associated problems (I.E. wheel cylinder replacement will probably involve brake line replacement.) The right attitude going in will greatly affect the jobs outcome.
