How long do 6.2L fuel pumps last?

My 2011 F350 now has 160,000 miles on it. I'm not the original owner but I believe it's on the original fuel pump.

A few days ago Dad borrowed the pickup and said he felt like it acted like it was vapor locking at an intersection. I have never had it do that and have put most of the last 30,000 miles on it. If fuel pumps on the 6.2 commonly don't last much longer than 160,000 to 200,000 I may replace it as just preventative maintenance. If they commonly last significantly longer than that though, I may just wait until it happens again to try and further diagnose it.

I think its to New to have any real numbers.

I am right behind you .. 2012 with 144,000 miles.

200,000 maybe the number..

if you are concerned.. have a fuel pump pressure test done. most garages can do it.

if your Dad, did feel a vapor lock, could be poor gas... as low pump pressure will cause the computer to report a LEAN burn condition .

Engine hours are going to matter more than miles. And it seems like regardless of engine hours or miles, they rare fail in the first five years. Not saying yours couldn't fail, but there's really no magic number here.

Get a pressure test and go from there.

You're trucks Fuel Pump is inside the Gas Tank. Same as the Fuel Filter. I believe if you are experiencing problems with how the truck is running the Check Engine light will come on and stay on until it's cleared. You'll need to read the Code (s) and made the repair.

My engine hours are 6697 making my average MPH approximately 23 MPH.

This is because the first owner was an oil company. I believe some management type guy drove to sites and then sat there in the air conditioned pickup making decisions for everyone else. Anyway, I believe it idled a lot.

I have no check engine light.

Like I said, I have never personally experienced the issue.

I can check the fuel pressure (have not yet) but I don't really see a need to without a check engine light because line was mentioned, it would be running lean and would throw a code of it were a weak pump.

In my experience, when a fuel pump fails, it's not actually the pump part that can't generate the required flow and pressure but it's the motor that just quits. Sometimes a guy can go under there and tap on the tank and a little vibration allows the motor that drives the pump to take off again which can allow you to limp home and get it repaired.

Anyway, I guess I'n not worried about low fuel pressure unless someone really thinks I should be. I guess a more specific version would be, "how long do the motors that drive the fuel pumps usually last?".

One of you mentioned that they're new enough that not many people may have experienced a fuel pump failure and I suspect that's the ultimate answer at this point.

I'll keep an eye on it going forward. Thanks for the thoughts.

I bet your dad experienced the throttle lag that a lot complain about and equated that to a 'vapour lock' feeling.
