Early First Oil Change on New Truck?

Wanted to get feedback if it is a good idea to change the oil the very first time in a new truck sooner to ensure no engine breakin contaminates get in the engine?

I have a new F250 6.2 that I have put 1300 miles on in the last month. First 1k break in, last 300 miles towing 8k. Was thinking of doing the first change at 1500 miles and then every 5000 miles after at that point.

Your plan seems sound to me.

I guess I'm less concerned about oil changes. I did the first at 6,000 and so far I've been on 6K oil change intervals. I'm coming up on 30,000 and it looks like it is time for the next one.

even with today's modern engine machining .. dust/bits are still inside running around..

I think its a good idea. 40 dollars NOW could equal a lot of saving 10 years from now.

if you are like me... keeps things forever.. a real good idea.

past car 19 years and 250,000 miles . lawn tractor 25 years and counting.( still using)

I did mine at the 1000 mile point just because break-in was complete, plus it had sat on the dealers lot for a year.

I've been told that, at one time, an oil change was done as part of dealer prep on a new vehicle. And that no other "early" oil change was needed. Who knows if that is true or not.

2013, 6.2, 4WD. I did the first oil change when the computer told me to, around 7000 miles. Its up to 92,000 currently, & still gets changed when the computer says its time, usually 7,000 miles.

Absolutely won't hurt. If it gives you peace of mind, do it.

I've just rolled 3k on mine and plan on changing it this weekend. Then every time it tells me too. I figure if there was any dust/shavings in there, they've been loose since almost day 1, and that's what the filter and magnet is for.

I was taught oil is cheap insurance so why take the chance but that said do what you're most comfortable with. I do mine at 4000 and don't blink at the cost.

I change mine every 5000 during the wet season and every 3000-4000 during the summer and early fall due to the dry and dusty conditions. A lot of dirt roads around here.

I changed mine early (1-3k) in all my vehicles, mainly it's a question of time spent sitting on the lot (which was MONTHS for my 6.0), compounded by sharing in this mindset:

Plus it get's the synthetic diet started early, not sure what factory fill is on the new stuff but I know for sure what's been in mine since 1k miles on the odometer.

Plus to anyone who's going to argue that changing the oil early is simply wasted money poured down the drain, I expect that to be accompanied by an explanation of how you max out every rating on your Super Duty and in no way are wasting money on a Super Duty when a less expensive lower rated truck would work. I'm not going to nitpick on one certain cost segment of ownership like oil changes, nor get my underoo's in a twist over one $100 oil change when it was new when I've burned about 8,000 gallons of diesel at an average of $3.50/gal for an eye-popping $28,000 in fuel cost since then.

That is what I did.

Plus...how long did the truck set on the lot...or was driven in short intervals before you bought it?

I changed mine just shy of 4k miles. First thousand break in and then about 1200 of the remaining 3k towing 8k. Since I had ordered my truck, I know it didn't sit on the lot.

I changed mine at a little over 2,000. I didnt want to tow with it until it was broke in and an oil change was done. I will change it again when it hits 5,000 miles. Then every 5,000 after.
I tow 5 days a week now.
