Looking at a 94 F250

Hi guys,

I am looking to replace my 89 Ford. I found a 1994 F250 regular cab 4x4 auto. Ad doesnt say whether its a 351 or 460 but I am going to look at it later today. Supposedly its a clean truck and fully functional. Only bad is it slips in drive.

He is asking $1800 and I want to keep a budget of $4,000 TOPS. (Less would be better). What am I looking at for repair? Complete overhaul? I dont know much about auto transmission...

Thanks!

if the trans is slipping in 3rd and or od and it's fluid is full, then the odds are high it needs a used or reman trans.because of this, his truck is worth 1k.not 1800$
thems the breaks.a 20+ yr old truck without a good engine or trans has very little resale value.if it were a diesel truck, you could be willing to pay near his asking with a blown trans,so long as the truck is clean.
an e4 reman is pricey.many opt to swap in a zf5. though personally i don't see enough $ savings for the downgrade once you buy a new clutch and pressure plate and whatnot.

Thanks. I may be able to find a transmission from a family member that would bolt right in. Is there anything electronically that would have to be swapped along to make it shift correctly?
