With the smallest tire option and going to 37s and 4.30s will be right back at stock. You can put a regular Dana 60 gearset in a super 60. The 2011-up 10.5 is a 37 spline pinion and current the deepest gear is a 4.30. With the correct bearing and companion flage it would be possible to use and older style 31 spline gear set.

Hi PN is it hard to get the carrier out? Do you use a case spreader?

They can be pretty tight but nothing a little work with a bar can't handle. This one was rather interesting being the carrier fell out. Has 8k on it. There was .015 lateral in the setup on the carrier, the slinger under the inner race was all beat up and the slinger under the yoke was missing. Must have been built on a Friday.

I spent little over 2500.00 for 4:30's installed with Mag-HyTec diff covers. I run 37's as well and was a little disappointed with the results of the change. I was hoping for a bit more performance.

They gears about even up on the bigger tires. It will put you about stock feel. Would have like to go 4.56 but it was too much hassle or parts and conversion to make the older 10.25 gears work.

I spoke with service rep at my Ford Dealer about switching my 2014 F-250 2WD from a 3.73 to 4.30. They stated they would not do it and also would not give me a list of parts needed. Maybe a California thing?

I'd suspect they are just a crappy dealer. Or the guy you spoke to should find a different line of work.

With 37's on the V10 trucks guys usually went with 4.88 gears. Keep in mind the V10 made more torque and at lower rpms than the 6.2l.

Exactly. What a joke. Call around some other Ford dealers or drive north, the dealers here can handle it.

Nitro claims you can re-use the stock shims you find any truth in that (not sure if you're using nitro's or not... but figured I'd ask..)?

There's now way. Newer gears and axles are the best they have ever been with tolerances but not to reuse all the shims. Not saying it can't happen. I will say most pinion depths have been within a thousandth, 2thou at most from the factory shim. Backlash from the factory is set with surface ground shims. I have never seen a diff that was that close to reuse those. Bad advice from nitro for sure.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Going to swap gears here in the next few weeks. Any extra tools required aside from a dial indicator and pinion bearing puller?

Marking compound. FYI, get another inner pinion bearing. Unless you bought the new clamshell to use in a puller it will probably kill the bearing. It's a dealer only bearing. Order a super carrier shim kit for a Ford 10.5. The dealer is the best value for gears. The front is pretty much a complete kit minus carrier bearings which need pulled since the shims are under the bearings. I can't remember if the rear comes with any bearings or not.

Just found out that 4:56 and 4:88 gear ratios are now available. Found them at Randy's Worldwide. Ive already got a quote of $2021.00 for 4:88 gears and install.

Just thought I would share the info. Will post results once I get them done.

Would depend what nitro meant. Should be no reason you can't re-use the shims but it will have to be adjusted to fit new gears. Not a good chance the original shims will be the same dimension you need for the new gears. May have to add or remove from the original shims but they are not junk.
