Turned in my diesel man-card today
For the past 8 years I have had a 2008, Job 2, F-250 Lariat Supercab. I dearly loved the thing. Great looks and power and it never gave me any significant problems and those problems weren't engine related.
I loved the power and feel of the diesel but I grew tired of the regen cycles and the $225 oil and fuel filter changes. As it approached 120K miles I began to get a nervous feeling that something expensive was right around the corner - HPFP, turbo or worse so I decided to go back to a naturally aspirated gas motor. I moved up in boat size and no longer have any towing needs but I still prefer a 3/4 ton.
The only thing I didn't get that I wanted was cab lights.
I handed the dealer a list of 24 options I wanted and 11 things / configurations I wouldn't take on a truck. He found a truck one state away with 23 of my 24 options and none of the things I didn't like.
I wish you all the very best with your 6.4s - mine was nothing but good to me while I had it. This 6.2 has some big shoes to fill.
So far the power of the 6.2 has impressed me - it's no diesel, but the truck does not feel underpowered by any stretch - definitely not the way F-250's with the 5.4 did.
Pictured is the 08 and the new one.
