Have You Ever Wanted to Build an F600 Pickup?

I've been driving my friends F700 dump truck with a trailer behind in preparation for the CDL test. The truck is really neat. A Cummins and an Allison.

It has brought up something from my past. I remember about 25 years ago seeing a bed that could be purchased to make an F600 into a monster pickup. If I could find a truck like my friends except with a manual transmission, I would really like to build a pickup.

Does anyone know anything about this? Was there a special bed available or did people use a regular dooley pickup bed?

All of the 'big' trucks only came as cab & chassis, so nothing behind the cab but rails & an axle. Ive seen several f600+ trucks, along with chevys that have had a pickup bed put on. The 80s & up would be the easiest since they have factory dually bed. 79 & older would need fenders or some kind of work.

This has been floating around facebook all week.

I'm not crazy about that visor, but that one looks great. Very nice job. I had envisioned the possibility of a long bed with step side fenders and wondered what it would look like. You gave me my answer and it looks great.

As far as ride goes, that's a great comment. My buddies dump truck doesn't have an objectionable ride at all, but it has the dump bed which I expect even empty is quite heavy. It's a '96, But I doubt that makes any difference. The beauty of his is the cummins. His has an Allison though and I would much rather have a manual. If I would settle for a 361 or 370 I could come up with a truck really cheap, but I love the cummins.

Remove leaves from the pack. Less leaves equal softer ride since a pickup version is probably always driven unloaded. A free modification except for the cost of new u bolts.

Actually I think the best solution would be an air ride set up. Not inexpensive....
