Running boards slippery as hell

Any solutions to the slippery running boards? I like the look but honestly as soon as a bit of snow gets on them (60% of the year up here) they are crazy slippery.

Myself, my wife, and all 4 of my kids have ended up laying face down on the seats cause our feet slipped out getting into the truck!

Can't slip on what isn't there. Just take them off.
at first it will feel clumsy getting in and out but you will get used to it in about a week.

Uhh... not an option. Forgot to mention the oldest of the 4 kids is 8. They all need the step to get in.

Also those running boards help keep the mud and road salt off the truck up here in Canada.

Looking for an anti-slip option, might end up being something metal, or aftermarket bars if nothing works out.

A grate tread may be your solution, not the most stylish but definetly high traction.

Those high traction devices may kill small knees if (nope, when) they slip anyway... maybe try some 12 volt heat tape on the boards to melt the ice?

How about using a spray on liner like Line-X? It has a textured finish that should be non slip.

First thing that popped into my head was that I know that the last time my grandparents painted their steps they added sand to the paint for traction.

So you could just grab a can of paint and mix some sand in - but that won't look very good. (But I'm not known for really caring what my Excursion looks like)

What BigBlueX says is probably a cleaner looking version for sure though

What about going to a skateboard shop, and getting some grip tape?

That's what I have done in the past. Cheap and effective. Its also not permanent. After mine starting wearing out I just applied more! After peeling off the old of course.

I saw one locally that had just the raised ribs sprayed with Line X. Looked pretty sweet, too! I have been wanting to do that to mine, just have not got to it!

x2 on paint-matched Line X, then you could spray the whole topside of the steps without making it obvious.
