This is going to be a common issue with the EB. Hence the TSB. As with anything proper oil maintenance will make it better. But the chains stretch, The VVT can't actuate properly and you end up needing all new VVT and chains plus components.

Yup, there is a TSB for that issue, all engines built up until 5/29/2015 may be affected. I've attached the TSB.

Your neighbor should reach out to Ford Customer Service and have them escalate the case. If he's polite he will probably be offered some assistance with the repair. If he ever uses the phrase, "This is the LAST time I buy a FORD..." they will offer him nothing, as they know they've already lost him.

Well guys I never thought it would happen but I bought a Dodge last night with the 12 valve cummins. Bought it from a guy in Nebraska. He met me in Sioux Falls last night and I drove it back. Drives great and basically no rust for it's age. It's a '95 and I will be pulling the body off of it and selling that. Then I will take the body off my '67 Chevy pickup and fit that to the Dodge drivetrain. Should be a fun project and be a nice driver when I am done. Let the fun begin!

Good morning guys...

Thanks for all thr info on the EcoBoost 3.5... Does the regular 3.5 also have this problem? I'm very familiar with Turbos and giving them a diet of good oil and proper cool downs when coming off the expressway etc. I just don't want to buy into more trouble. Maybe I should take a better look at the GM and Jeep offerings..

Troy - that picture reminds me of the movie "Independance Day" where Will Smith first sees the Alien Spaceship parked in the bay of the Area-51 Laboratory... You sure you know how to drive that thing? LOL...
All kidding aside, it sounds like a neat project, but I think Dodge chassis as well as their bodies just plain suck... I see lotsa balljoints in your future..

Good morning Randy! Well the thing drove great last night at 80 going down the interstate and with the kind of driving I will be doing with it. I doubt if I will ever have to do ball joints. A few thousand miles a year and no heavy pulling. Besides what truck of that age won't need work?

Good morning fellas!

What!? A Dodge! Troy are you feeling ok? I told you to stay off CL when you are drinking. LOL!

Looks like a solid platform to begin your "project". Sounds like more than just a project to me but I have never done stuff like that. Good luck!

The 3.5 does. But the newer ones are fine. Check the production date.

The GM trucks are pure garbage right now. Wouldn't do it no matter what.

The Dodge trucks are pretty decent. I'd buy a Dodge before I even looked at a GM. I'm not a Wrangler fan, but that's personal.

The F150 is the way to go. But I wouldn't be opposed to a Ram 1500 ecodiesel.
