new guy with 55 f100 with ???'s

new guy on here with a 55 f100 I bought a while back. Been reading post and techs till my head hurts. The truck has tons of patina so no paint or body work. Already have Lexus front ifs, 8.8 rear with TCI spring kit and 5.3 ls aluminum motor and 6 speed auto.

Im getting ready to mount front ifs under frame and I have read somewhere on here that someone wished they had c notched the front a couple inches up into the frame for a lower stance. I have it clamped in close to ride height and it looks to be sitting a little to high. front radiator crossmember is about 12" off ground. Does this sound close for a nice low sit or is it to high. Im sure many more questions in the future. Thanks Kurt

What I have done in the past to answer questions I had regarding ride height, etc was to find another truck that sat the way I wanted and to take lots of measurements. Many times one measure is sufficient as it can be used as a point of reference...a good one is frame height at the front bumper. I know owners who will keep their trucks low and have no problem with easing over every bump in the road...others don't want that hassle and would rather sacrifice the "look" for the ride. You will have to figure out where you stand in the mix to calculate your ride height.

I also went with the lexus ifs. I opted to just make a level mounting point where the cradle mounts to the frame using the most narrow point at the front of the frame. After that my f1panel was going to be low enough for me so there wasn't any need for any other notching. I wanted to be able to cruise with now worries but that is subjective. Slap a fender or the nose up on there with your frame and ifs sitting at your ride height(I put the lower control arms parallel to the ground with maybe a degree of downslope toward the tires, hope that's right but only time will tell)and that should give you a good idea of how low you are. If it's not low enough then you can notch it, brace it and box it. good luck
