ZF S5-42 transmission

Does anybody know if there is any transmission that I could use to replace a ZF5 in my 95' F250? Maybe one that has an external slave cylinder?

I think you'd have to go back to a 4-speed for that.

I'd be willing to do that! Would a 4x4 T18 bolt on the my 351 in place of the 4x4 ZF5?

Only if you got a small block bell housing to go with the T18.

But why in the world would you be willing to loose OD?

Would the bell housing from the ZF5 swap over to the T18? I'm having trouble with the slave cylinder going out ever 18 or so months on the ZF and I can't afford to have it worked on the often

I guess you have not noticed. The ZF trans has an integrated bell housing.
A conventional 4 speed has a separate bell.

It sounds like inferior parts or something else is wrong

Make sure the shop is installing a motorcraft slave. Parts store slave cylinders are often junk. It's not worth saving $60 on a part that is going to cost you hundreds in labor to replace. There is no way I would go backwards from a zf. Not saying a t18 is bad, but not only do you lose overdrive, but the zf shifts much better in comparison.

You where right I didn't notice that haha.

One of my Co workers told me to replace the fly wheel and clutch(possiblely a high dollar performance clutch) and a motor craft slave all at the sametime?? When it was working it was way to soft. I'm no master at working on engines and transmissions but even I could tell it was way to soft. I'm gonna buy a transmission Jack do it myself! I know I can do it I just need a few tools that I don't have

I found a slave cylinder on Napa for 69$... would it be alright or should I go to a Ford house and get a motor craft slave? What flywheel and clutch would ya recommend?

Hydraulic clutches are SOFT, that was half the reason company went to them

Also, no 2 hydraulic clutches will be the same.

All is good unless the clutch is not disengaging or if it is slipping

Thats the thing, it was waaay to soft and wouldn't disengage till about an inch from the floor and thenup the pedal wouldn't pop back up and now it won't work at all.
So probably a slave cylinder from a Ford house would be better?
It'll shift but you have to power shift it because the clutch won't work

If it is soft and doesn't come back up, have you checked the clutch return spring?

Yes, the correct way is to replace everything at once if you want it to last. Motorcraft slave, Luk Brand/Motorcraft flywheel and clutch. Also replace the rear main seal while in there.

Those parts store slave cylinders arent worth the box they come in.

So your brake pedal stays on the floor? If so it should spring back up once you lift it about halfway by hand. Have you checked the fluid in the reservoir?
