$230 for a Software update to fix DTC??
I posted my DTC P20BA in the 6.7 forum, but the dealer told me the truck needed a $230 "Software Update" and thought I'd see if anyone heard of that here.
The warranty ran out last month. Doesn't seem right that the dealer can charge for software. It was running fine before and after the CEL came on yesterday.

Thats about what I was charged to have my pcm updated to help shifting patterns on my 2011 f350 6.2. They charged that and I was under warranty still.
(/Startsarcastic) Money well spent considering the tranny was 5 liters low and the transmission guy couldn't be bothered to check that. Just plug the puter in and tell me its normal. I'd hate to see what happens when something is covered under warranty if thats what you get when you are paying for service.(/Endsarcastic)

When my '11 xl was new I asked my local dealer about turning on the daytime running lights. I was told it would cost $160 for them to "research" (were they solving cancer?) whether they could turn them on and if they could it would cost another $85 to perform their magic. Perhaps you went to my local dealer.

I doubt the charge is for the software, but probably two hours of labor at ~$95-$100/hour + shop fees and taxes. Check to see if there is a TSB on the problem, and if so, ask them why they didn't fix it when it was still under warranty. They may "good will" the repair.
