05 axle swap and some wheel questions

05 axle swap and some wheel questions

Well guys i finally have almost everything I need to do my 05 axle swap except wheels and plan on doing it over my Christmas brake but I've got some questions on axle width and wheel backspacing will a 9 inch wide wheel with s 4.5 backspacing and -12 offset stick out to far here's the wheels

Any advice at all even just on wheel back spacing would be very helpful thanks in advance

Well guys guess I'm gonna try to order these wheels here soon pretty excited about it probably gonna clean the axles up this weekend and rust primer them up but we will seri get pics of progress soon

I'm gonna be doing an 05 axle swap soon too! Dually though. I'd just look up the specs on factor super duty wheel's and compare it with the ones you want to figure out how much more they will stick out.

And I'm still not sure on backspacing but on the axle these tires will give 3.5 in offset more on each side than what I currently have

Was gonna get the other wheels but got a steel on these so I'm gonna run them got to get couple more bolts and some welding gas and I'm starting on it tomorrow guy I know gonna let me use his 2 post car rack so plan on starting tomorrow afternoon

Well here's what we got done so far and rear tire we just couldn't help it we had to stick it up there thats about were its gonna sit

We're not sure yet what we're gonna do with the tranny crossmember but we're working on it

Looking good, you got a good start! Axles all painted up nice. Whats the matter with the tranny cross member?

Well got front axle in besides brake lines and track bar mount and drilling out the pitman arm and trans cross member has to changed do to the fact that the radius arm mounts are in the way

All you guys doing the '05 axle swaps have me thinking. I really don't want to swap my axle, because I already have a Dana 80 dually axle from an '01 E450. I has the same 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern as the OBS trucks, and disc brakes. So, what you and Andrew have me thinking is, coil spring and three link my D60, and do the D80 rear, that way I don't have to worry about wheels.

probably in your case i wouldnt mess with the newer axle but i like the fact of the bigger brakes in the front that require 17 in or bigger wheels but im close
to done on the front brake lines and it should be done
then swap the rear
