390 Deal ??
#17
well I opened up my early xmas gift.
Pulled the heads
it is a 390
it has flat tops
but is already boared 30 over
cyl wall look to be in good shape, I will check them for exact measurments and out of round.
If all is good I will give them a light hone and hopefully re use pistons if they r ok
ill check crank journals and rods and hopefully just re bearing.
Im a bit pissed that the heads were not the same I was hoping that they were both c6ae-u's. im not concerned about running premium fuel.
I have a good set of c8ae-h's I guess I could use them. I was hoping to have 10.5 compression is it possible to get at least 10.0 CR with the H heads??

Hi All, finally got it tore down,
Block is a d6 or 8te, cant tell as the second digit is really rough. 4 of the 8 pistons have broken skirts, slight scoring on cyl wall. the block is bored .030 over. very nice numbers when I mic ed the bores.4.082 to .084. at most .002 out of round . the light scoring on a couple walls says I should take it to 0,040 over. ?? I think
Other then that the block looks really good, no stripped holes or damage of any kind that I can see, will get it tested when it goes to shop.
the mains look like they have a lot of cast reinforcement at the webs, maybe a upgrade to the later truck block,, I'm guessing.
the crank is a 3U crank. mains mic ed out to 2.7385" and rod journals were 2.428 + 0.001 there is a scribe on the crank that says "010" so I assume its already 10 under. No spun bearings so journals look nice and clean
The rods are c7ae-b , nothing special, don't know if I will re use.
I think I will look for a good set of forged flat top pistons and some aftermarket rods before I send it to the shop.
Any thoughts please
