Tire size issue. Ugh!!

I have a 2005 f150 4x2 that came with 255/65-17 tires. I hate the factory stamped steel rims so I bought a set of oem ford truck rims with the spoked design. They look great.
Unfortunately, the guy that sold them advertised them as 17", and I never really looked at them until I got home and cleaned them.
They are 18 " wheels with 275/65-18 tires. I feel pretty dumb.
Anyway they look good on the truck but with 255 gears it is a real dog and it is harder to stop as expected.
What size tires can I mount that will fit the rims but not be so oversized ??? Help

Either 235/65/18 or 255/60/18 .03% difference

2.55:1 rear gear? I never heard of such a high gear in a truck.
