I understand that removing the big, y pipe resonator would yield the louder sound but I don't want it too loud. I tow a 14,000# fifthwheel in the summer and don't want to hear a lot of drone going down the highway. Right now there is hardly no drone but also hardly any different exhaust sound from stock. Maybe I'll remove the coffee can and change to a more aggressive muffler.

I'd put some miles on it before changing other stuff first. I've found most exhaust gets appreciably louder in the first few 100 miles of use.

So I'm bringing my truck to a exhaust shop Saturday morning to have the coffee can resonator removed. Will this give me a little better exhaust tone or more interior noise. Right now my Flowmaster catback system sounds almost like stock and I just want a little more sound, not a lot.

It will be more exhaust tone. Minimal to no drone and i have the big resonator off as well. You will like the added growl.

I ended up removing 1 resonator and added a Flowmaster Super44 Series muffler with a dump. The Super44 series has a baffle design that improves flow without sacrificing torque and I've been pretty satisfied. It's aggressive when I feel like romping on it while not being annoying on long drives.

So I just get back from the custom exhaust shop and they inform me that removing the coffee can resonator would be a waist and wouldn't give much more sound. Is this true or is this guy just lazy first thing in the morning?

Unless I'm missing something, all the muffler shop needs to do is chop out the resonator and put a straight pipe to the rest of your system....sounds like they're being lazy to me.

He tried to make it sound like he was down no me a favor. He said that the difference in exhaust sound wouldn't be anything more that a decibel or so. I just want the truck to sound like I have Flowmaster's and right now it sounds lame.

Maybe try another shop, IMO I kinda find it hard to believe something so big and heavy would only attenuate decibels by a negligible difference...

I'm only pulling out the small coffee can resonator, not the big 2 into 1 resonator

Removing resonator would give you more sound. I have magnaflow cat back system. With the magnaflow all resonators are gone and it's got a nice mellow rumble to it.

What are the Resonators in there for? Just noise reduction? Can they be removed & still legal for warranty? Just picked up a brand new 2016 F350 & would love to hear some sound out of her!!

Yes they are for sound/drone reduction and yes they can be removed.
