I've already got the cross member to mount a 2 piece and a nice 2 piece shaft to go with it. I just need to have a few inches removed from the front half and mount the carrier bearing in the right manner and I should be good. I need to get under there and determine just how much and pay Alan a visit.

sounds like a good plan dave.. that 68" shaft would be hard to balance.. and very easy to get thrown off while running thru the woods somewhere..
i much prefer a 2 piece shaft on a lwb truck..
my bus has a 3 piece shaft.. to keep from using any single shaft over a certain length, was a little hard to build but has worked out a lot better the the 2 piece that was on it originally

Afternoon All!
Nobody showed up yet. The same guy with the green truck is the guy with the crew cab short bed I put an engine in. He owes me $100, so I'll probably never see him again. He's proven to be somewhat less than reliable.
I'm probably going to sell the GMC out from under the kid that bought it, then I'll give him his money back. He won't return my calls or messages anymore, and I'm not waiting two months get paid.
The guy that dropped off the Dodge dropped off the face of the Earth, so I guess I'll just wait until he wants his truck back to talk to him.
I got the second coat of primer down on the Chevy and should be able to shoot color on it today, but I haven't seen that owner for weeks, either.
I'm gonna paint a few trailers for the guys next door to work off the last little bit I owe on the welder.
I'm tellin' ya', flippin' burgers is sounding better and better.

I agree completely RC. I crawled under there with the front half and it looks I'm going to need 6 inches out of the front shaft to get the carrier bearing where I need it. I've already checked the back half and it reaches to that point.
Alan - Are you going to be at the shop much this weekend?

i hear ya alan.. as rich recommended, you have to start doings things different..
the last couple of years i had the shop open to the public i had to change my system also.. i started getting my parts and some labor up front. and when parts or time problems arose that was taken care of before work continued . when customers already have money invested they seem more able to pay the remainder of the bill when the job is finished.. then also i started charging storage (interest) on any thing not picked up in a set time frame and that really cut down on that situation.. it is nice to be like the big shops that have the ability to just bill after the job is finished.. but a small shop can not be operated like that for very long in the real world.. if "good" customers really like your work they will understand and cooperate with the changes

dave sounds like you are on the right path.. remember to measure twice!! and allow for movement of rear shaft to both extremes .. since you will have a slip yoke on the trans instead of a direct connection i would slide the yoke on and off to be sure of exact max depth of slip yoke.. but it is not rocket science for sure there is always some give and take on a job like this.... you know it is easy if a dumb hillbilly like me can do it.. ha ha ha ha

I'm going to call them in the morning and ask. Since dinner isn't til 5pm I am going to run out there if they do have a sale.
I am going to do the 130 amp alternator upgrade on my 93 and don't want to buy a new alternator, since I already bought a 95 amp one before I found out about this upgrade.
And I need to get some window struts for the shell on my 92. I I found out the struts from an Expedition are the same as the ones that came on the shell originally.

Happy Thanksgiving RC.
I get a pretty steady stream of reminders about how much I have to be thankful for every day. I've been blessed with a wonderful wife and children, my parents are healthy and looked out for, we have a roof over our heads and food on the table, and we both have jobs we mostly enjoy. I see so many young people at work who have lost everything due to their own bad decisions and realize how very few problems I really have.
