My heat shields are a bit rotten (I could fix them though) so I'm tempted to just throw them in my parts box...
I left mine off. No problems so far but I only have about 1000 miles since installing the headers. One thing I do notice since installing the headers is that the under hood temps are much lower.

Hey,

Just noticed you're on the island. I'm in Nanaimo and have a few big block Fords. I'm looking at getting some Banks headers as an alternative to replacing a leaking manifold on my truck. Where did you end up ordering them from?

Good luck with a response. His last post was almost 3 years ago.

I ordered them through Summitt Racing, At the time they had the best deal, and the "cheapest" shipping. Well worth every penny though!

I have Banks headers and they came with hardware.

did you have to cut all that away? Assuming that is the inside of the fender. I did some reading and it says trimming may be necessary, looks like you cut a lot, I’m wondering how mich is actually necessary?

I didt cut anything. I removed the inner fender it was pretty easy and everything was accessible. I installed them from the bottom and with a little finesse they went right into place. I didnt even remove my spark plugs I just broke them free and finger tightened them so I could remove any piece if they broke off. I have a non-air injection set and a manual trans so I didn't have to fiddle with any extra tubes or hoses. The headers just go up into place and torqued on with no gasket but a thin film of copper RTV between my heads and the headers.
This was the easiest set of headers I've ever installed.

I agree! They fit beautifully on mine as well.

Thanks for the info both of you. The truck I'm planning this for still has the Thermactor system with the air tubes. Part of me wants to ditch it, but it's all working fine with no codes.

Island'r, did you get the set with the air tubes?

I would double check the availability of the set you need first. Someone said in 2021 or earlier in 2022 that they discontinued the set they needed for their cab configuration.
Even though you can purchase through Summit or Jegs they ship direct from Banks. Mine came with the starter heat shield, sway bar drop bracket and all needed hardware except the cat flange did not match mine or anything I could buy to replace mine but they list the catalytic converter flange shape in the specs I believe. I cut it off with a Sawzall and just had an exhaust shop flare a 6" piece of 3" exhaust tubing and used 2 heavy duty exhaust clamps torqued with about 10 ugga buggas.

I pulled the part numbers from Banks' site for the Powerpack bundle for a Crew Cab, Automatic with Air Injection. I'm going to replace the EGR tube to maintain that function, but the Air Injection system will be deleted and the small port capped with a blanking plate. Grabbed the sway bar relocate bracket at the same time.

I ordered through Summit, as they had the least hassle to get the parts north of the border. But while on the Banks site, they offered a 10% off coupon if I ordered within 24 hours. I screen-grabbed that and sent it to Summit customer service and they say they are going to knock off the same amount from my bill. It's supposed to be refunded in 3-5 days. The parts aren't supposed to ship until the end of February, but I'm not in a rush. I have other work to do (camper tie-downs, some interior work etc.)

Definitely not cheap, but if I'm going to go in and fix a cracked manifold, I might as well upgrade it at the same time. I'm not a fan of the muffler that is on the truck anyways.

I sprayed all my manifold bolts with penetrating lube every day for a week before I did the install and all my bolts came out with a little finesse.

Yep. The first thing I went out and did after placing the order. They are going to get a good long term soak before I get a wrench on them

Did some more digging around online, and it seems what I am doing will only be a temporary fix. Most that have done the same repair have had another exhaust leak shortly after, usually with more broken bolts.

General consensus it that headers are the cure... So now I'm looking at headers; and the Banks seem to be the way to go, not only for quality, but for the fact that they come with everything, and doesn't appear I'd need a muffler shop to be involved...

Now I just need to come up with a good case for spending nearly $2000 on the exhaust system... this could be fun....

Anyone done a header swap that can help my case? I've looked at cheaper header options but by the time I get the other parts I need and/or have a shop fab up the rest, I'll be into it for nearly the same...
I did the complete Banks system on my 460. Headers, into their Stinger exhaust package. Everything is top quality. Instructions were ridiculously easy to understand. All parts hangers, and the O2 sensor bung, lined up perfectly. Only issue, for me, is the kit does not come with a catalytic converter. Thus it is a tad loud. I added a magna flow universal converter, and much quieter, but, still has that low "growl" that sounds good.
Would absolutely recommend this kit. But, as you noted its a tad pricey. If you do it, I don't believe you will be disappointed.
This is my build, if it helps:
