Bill (Numberdummy) offers a good explanation about how Ford's old part numbering system works.
The prefix is decade/year/division/location on vehicle
-D0VE- is a part *designed for* a 1970 model Lincoln (division V) and it's an (E)ngine part.
Then would come a number for ALL cylinder heads that Ford made.
Then would be a suffix like A2A.
This denotes engineering revisions to the original part

This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you!!!

Cross referencing that gives me Fel-Pro #72505... Looks like we have a winner...

Now if I could just find the proper set of exhaust manifold studs I would be golden...

Ok, so now I'm back to the "headers looking pretty good" debate...

Did some more digging around online, and it seems what I am doing will only be a temporary fix. Most that have done the same repair have had another exhaust leak shortly after, usually with more broken bolts.

General consensus it that headers are the cure... So now I'm looking at headers; and the Banks seem to be the way to go, not only for quality, but for the fact that they come with everything, and doesn't appear I'd need a muffler shop to be involved...

Now I just need to come up with a good case for spending nearly $2000 on the exhaust system... this could be fun....

Anyone done a header swap that can help my case? I've looked at cheaper header options but by the time I get the other parts I need and/or have a shop fab up the rest, I'll be into it for nearly the same...

A temporary fix for what?
A broken stud?
I've always gone back with stainless bolts from the hardware store.
$20ish worth of hardware...
They don't rot the heads off, and while they may seem soft they are more than enough for the torque called for.
If you have a real issue with manifolds cracking, slot (oval) the holes towards each end so it has some room to expand.
Do you use gaskets or just aluminum spray paint?
I think the book calls for graphite paste.

Its a temporary fix for warped manifolds, which results in leaks and/or broken bolts (rear most passenger is usually the culprit due to the extra heat back there)

Stainless is a dangerous game. Yes they are less likely to rot, but if they do shear off you're in for a heck of a time trying to drill them out...

My manifold has already had the holes massaged on the passenger side. Didn't stop it from happening. Was installed the factory way with no gasket.

Maybe carb manifolds aren't as bad?
I've been using stainless bolts for 300k+ mi. and haven't broken one.
Stainless isn't hard just gummy.
But then I've never had to drill one out of a head.
I think I would weld a nut on before I even tried an easyout.

I just replaced my entire exhaust with the Banks system. Its the best you can buy for our trucks but expensive. The headers are a bit overkill in construction but will last the life of your truck. I plan on keeping my truck for a long long time, so I didn't really mind spending the money on the Bank Power pack. Better than spending 50 to 60k on a new truck.

Doug thorley with included y pipe seem to be well made and a bit cheaper. Another option for you.

I looked on Doug Thorleys website last night. The headers with the Y pipe for my application are for vehicles without Air Injection. The ones that are the proper ones require welding (they come with "universal" adapters)

Yeah I have no intention of getting rid of this truck. A new F-250 is closer to 80k in this neck of the woods, and the monthly payments would be more than my mortgage...

I think convincing the wife might be possible lol

UPDATE:

Ordered some Banks Torque tube headers... If I can manage to get the drivers side manifold out without any hassle (fingers crossed) then I should be on the road to never dealing with this again...

Thanks for the encouragement! Lets hope the bolt gods are still on my side...

Really looking forward to having my 460 sound like a 460, and not a sewing machine ticking away as I go down the road

Question for those with the Banks headers though;

Did you re install the factory spark plug heat shields? Banks says its not required, but you can put them on if you like. For those that didnt reuse them did you make any other precautions to protect plug wires (sleeves, new wires etc?)

My heat shields are a bit rotten (I could fix them though) so I'm tempted to just throw them in my parts box...
