New Member... 2016 F450 Platinum vibration help!!!!
#31
Ford and Dodge both use the 19.5 wheels with the aluminum/steel combo in the rear. It shouldn't be an issue with the wheels. The F450s Lariat and Platinum both have the steel/aluminum combo. The chassis cab truck have all steel 19.5 wheels
The rim.material should make no difference. The first step is a true road force balance. Many people just want to balance the tires and adjust weight when in fact the tire may need to be dismounted and rotated on the rim. The is requires extra work and people are usually lazy so this step gets skipped many times. I watched one good tire shop do it on mine and it made a huge difference. If that does not cure the vibration you will need to then look into replacing tires. Good luck!

Same vibration on my 2016 platinum 450
Had it a week now and it seems to vibrate only when the gooseneck is hooked up
I was installing back up lights the other day and noticed at the end of the frame there is a rubber mounted weight on both sides of the frame rail
Assuming this must be some sort of dampening system
A Ford quick fix that didn't fix anything
Installing air bags this weekend so I'll see if that changes anything
My vibration seems to be triggerd by a simple odd bomb in the road and stays till I slow down
Speed up its fine till another bump in the road

Hello everyone,
New to the site but not new to ford f series trucks.
Purchased new 2016 450 platinum. Has less than 800 miles on it and has a terrible vibration between 70-80 mph... Already have taken to dealer who stated there was a wheel out of balance and that they fixed the issue. But still present.
Has anyone experienced this issue and if so what was the fix if any.
Thanks in advance
Ray

ive got the same 2016 f450 platinum
My truck also had the vibration on the freeway
So bad I avoided the freeway
I've read about others with the same unresolved issue so I didn't bother mentioning it to the dealer
With the gooseneck trailer it would vibrate even worse
I don't think it's a tire or driveline issue in my case but more a suspension issue
It seemed to hop at high speeds more then vibrate
With a high hitch weight I needed air bags anyway and when I installed those at 1000 Kms it took all vibration and hop out of the truck completely
I put in pac brake air springs as they have a smoother air ride rather then a Firestone helper spring witch is stiff I find
I beleive ford knows it is an issue and their fix was the weighted dampening system at the back of each frame rail before the bumper
Crawl under and have a look at the big round weights that are suspended with soft rubber mounts
I think this is all part of the hopping and vibrations
I wouldn't mind removing this set up now and seeing if it chamges the ride any
All in all I'm pretty happy with this truck

I too believe it to be a hop, not a vibration. I don't believe Ford has any clue as I've been to 6 dealers now. I really wouldn't mind fixing it myself since its been at Ford half the time since ownership. I just hate to keep throwing money at this truck since all of my rims are destroyed now with huge scratches, ect. Ford gave me a maintenance package for 48k for the hassle instead of new rims? I will be purchasing new tires & rims storing these until I sell the vehicle regardless. I looked & don't have any such frame add-ons. Ford may finally have an engineer come look at my vehicle which I've requested several times before but their protocol is abysmal. After this visit I will see & then begin my own repairs or sell this truck completely.

Good Luck Buddy. I have a 2016 Ford F450 Platinum with the exact same problem, 70-80 mph will shake your teeth out. I have been to my original dealer in Hendersonville, NC, nothing they did fixed it and when I took it to Huntersville Ford today they threw me out and told me they didn't want my business because I threatened a lemon law suit. I WILL NEVER BUY ANY FORD PRODUCT EVER AGAIN. I WILL NEVER DO ANY BUSINESS OR RECOMMEND HUNTERSVILLE FORD TO ANYONE I KNOW. Ford knows all about this problem an has fixed it on their new 2017 super duty but has left 2016 and prior F450 owner out in the cold. I have given up and will buy new rims and tires as I am pretty sure this is the problem.

I actually just traded mine in on another 2016. I put 42,000 miles on my old one. My new one was built in April 2016. It has the large vibration damper on the drivers side rear framerail as pictured in the previous post. I also noticed that it had a very large collar type weight on the driveshaft near the U point at the axle. This truck drives much smoother than my other one. Just to be on the safe side I am going to order another set of the Tru Balance inserts as cheap insurance.

The only time mine has settled down was when I had about 24,000 pound on the gooseneck. I'm gonna find a dealer with a chassis cab F450 and pay them to swap wheels with me so I can take it for a ride with all steel wheels. If that doesn't work I am gonna go to a Walmart parking lot and burn off these Continentals and slap some Michelins on it and see what that does.
