Quieting the cab ?s
What have you guys used for quieting the cab on our obs trucks. Where do u need to put it for it to help the most? What brand? What thickness? Is doubling it up helpfull? What was the total cost? Did u do the doors? Was it an easy process it was it like pulling teeth? Was it worth the money? What size cab do u have, and how much did u use? Does doing the back of the cab or under the roof liner help?

Just looked through your thread. Thanks for the info sir. Looks like a royal PITA. If I had a buddy that could take the dash out and put it back on for me Id do it. But I dont and Im not good with those types of procedures. It also sounds like if I dont do against the front dash it doesnt really make sense to do at all. So it may just stay loud in my cab, as long as I have the truck.

My biggest decibel issue is the engine. Idk if its the exhaust right out of the turbo thats making all the noise or the up pipes but its pretty loud. Idk how much road noise I have because I cant hear it over the engine. Id imagine the trannel tunnel holds alot of that sound in.

Ive been doing some research on what to use for this. The peal and seal works but its asphalt based and will make the truck smell weird. Especially in the desert heat I live in. The other options are, closed cell foam, and mass loaded vinyl. While the mass loaded vinyl blocks sound, it stops at that. Its just a blocker. The closed cell foam apparently blocks, and absorbs both sound and vibration. Its also decently priced and can also be purchased at any home improvement store.

I have absolutly ZERO smell. Any review you have read about smell, was NOT by anyone that actually used it.
Last year was one of our hottest on record. Never went below 100* for over a week straight. the truck sat in the sun on an asphalt drive and not one hit of and smell
A layer of 1/8" closed cell foam on the floor as well

Wow man, you really got EVERYTHING. Looks like a very clean job. Would u recommend doing the closed cell over the peel/seal everywhere? Its pretty cheap stuff.

Im looking into this project as a winter project while I wont be using the truck. I think what Im going to do is take out everything BUT the dash, and seal it all up. Ill get as far under the dash as I can with the seal and foam and see how it sounds. If I do all that and its pretty quiet I think Ill stop at that. I may also try to get some of the peal inside the engine bay against the fire wall to help. In all honestly I should only miss 6-12"s of area under the dash by not taking it off. The amount I outlined in orange is what Im thinking Ill miss. Ill take off the bottom of the dash and the glove box. I should be able to get 95% of the truck that way.
