Got to my first big swap meet this weekend. It was at Charlotte Motor Speedway and it rained all day (in fact the whole 4 day event). But, that mage people willing to deal. So, I came away with the following:
- Awesome old tachometer I have big plans for
- Set of gauges, oil psi, water temp, amperage
- outside mirrors, sleeker car style I think I will like
- 2 am/fm push button radios, hoping one will work
- rear view mirror that is a single piece with the visor bracket

All that and a Philly cheesesteak for about $65. Sure wish I had a couple.hundred I could have spent cause there was lots of good stuff there. Sucks being on a tight budget.

I'll post pics as I clean things up and install them. I also came up with an awesome.idea for a cupholder and once I weld it up I'll show y'all that as well. Its a stroke of genius I think. Lol

And a philly cheesestake too! You made out like a bandit at the IRS. Was it a Ford factory tach?

No, I don't see any Ford numbers on it anywhere. But it should clean up really well.

Although does anyone have any ideas on how to clean up pits in the chrome?

None that I know of. Only thing I know is taking it to a Plater that can remove the old chrome, polish it back smooth, then re-plate it.

That's kind of what I figured. Maybe we can come up with a better name than "pits" for the little marks and then it will be cool - like "patina" means rust but the word adds $100 to everything and instantly makes it cool!

One other question: I want to replace my radius arm bushings (the ones at the back by the cab) and it seems to me I remember that if you pull the nuts the whole front assembly will pull forward and you can replace those bushings. But I am not sure. Does that sound right?

You can TRY #0000 steel wool, but in the end JEFFFAFA is correct.

Also, I found a decent core.support and a 69 grill with the red ranger emblem for $150. I just can't get there to pull it all until next week. Add me to your prayer list that no one beats me to it!

We could call them age spots, but then people would smear Oil of Olay every where.

I tried that radious arm trick once. MAJOR PIA!!!!! easier to drop the whole thing. Didn't you just do the I-beam bushings tho?

No, I did the rear bushings. I have the front ones but wanted to do them in stages since I only usually get an hour or two at a time to wrench. But I guess I will drop the whole thing one Saturday when I can carve out the time.

Start soaking with PB blaster, Plan it out in your mind and you can have it done in 4 hours or less. I know you don't have any experience, but you have to bleed the brakes again.

Whew! Went through a wild few weeks, but I'm back in action now. My power steering started leaking all over the place, but some new fluid with stop leak seemed to swell up the seals enough to get me through until I can tear in and replace that upper seal. Hopefully this weekend.

I have had all kinds of electrical gremlins. It's crazy how things work one day but not the next. Here's my current issue -

Occasionally the turn signals stop working and if I jiggle the key in the ignition switch just right they start up again. Any ideas? That seems so weird to me. I didn't think the turn signals went through the ignition switch.

Hope everyone else is good. I'll get to reviewing the other threads shortly.

Back in a day, I used to have a wod of keys on my key ring. Something of the same sorts happened to me, I changed the ign switch, and used a one key keyring for the ole girl. Still do the same today. Like presto magic, it still works.
It is possible to remove the keyed tumbler to use with the new ign switch.

Interesting...I can't figure out how it relates to the turn signals. I have to look more closely at the wiring diagram, I guess.
