The 33"s look like stock tires under it because of it.

There definitely LOOKS like there's plenty of clearance for a bigger than 33" tire.

I'll get a pro to look at it before I break something...

Alex, break out your tape measure and then visit this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...easurents.html
Your measurements from center of hub to top center of wheel well opening will reveal if you have any suspension upgrades beyond stock. Add your info to that thread, it's a great resource for anyone looking into suspension mods for their EX. If you do find that you have additional ride height over a stock EX you can take some pics that show as much of each spring including the hangers and shackles and post them here. A lot of times we can give you a pretty good answer on what has been done to the suspension just by closely examining those pictures.

Along this same line, how difficult is it to change the gears? I've watched a bunch of you tube videos and there seems to be a large amount of specialized knowledge needed. The kind best obtained through experience and difficult to gather by studying. I'm hoping I'm wrong and i can tackle this when i change my springs and work on the rest of the suspension.
