Yes, and no. If I do it I thought I'd buy it from Midwest as part of the order of parts for the tranny rebuild. So, I'm not doing any more research. Should I?

Gary: Did you end up making a decision on the buying the kit and having someone do the rebuild or whether just buying a complete reman?

I am curious, as I am in the same boat. I just picked up a ZF5 that I want to put in the bronco and trying to figure out which direction makes the most sense

I haven't done anything. However, in order to access the exhaust-to-exhaust manifold bolts on a 351M/400 a groove has to be ground in the ZF's bell housing. I've done this on mine and suspect that might cause a problem returning it as a core. So, I'll probably have this one rebuilt.

Sounds like maybe some more broken parts in the tranny. I am waiting on a call back now. Stay tuned.

A reverse gear and a reverse sliding clutch is needed as well. The synchro for reverse was broken in half.

Houston, we have a problem. I'm looking at the Midwest site and see a reverse gear mainshaft, as shown in this listing. Is that what is needed?

But, don't see a reverse sliding clutch. Can Scotty or James pick the parts from the illustration below?

Well, I'm not sure what caused it. But, I needed reverse gear ($130) and the reverse slider, also known as the reverse sliding clutch ($32). The reverse slider was broken in half, which might explain why it was sometimes hard to get the tranny in reverse.

But, this should be a sweet tranny when I get it back.
