1966 f100 2wd short box wanna be shop truck

So I recently decided to buy a truck to fix up and drive to and from work and around town. So the search started with craigslist and to no avail I found no truck with a reasonable price or condition. Frustrated I was talking with co workers and one guy spoke up and said his uncle had a mid 70's 2wd f100 that had been siting for 20+ years. Excited I said I wanted to look at it he claimed it had low miles a 390 and a automatic transmission. So we get to the shed it is in and we'll it was a little more rough than he remembered. Again frustrated I called my dad up and asked if he knew of any old trucks laying around anywhere. He said he knew of one so the same day I go down to look at it turns out it is a 66 f100 short box in good condition 352 with a 4 spd on the floor. I ask him if he knows what the guy wants and he calmly said $1800 I was in shock that was a great deal. So over the next two weeks I impatiently called my dad and asked if he had spoken with the gentleman and finally on Monday morning I was able to go pick it up.

Truck runs extramly well shows 57000 miles. Has been mechanically taken care of. I drove it around 10 miles was all just around town. Plans are to lower it put headers and exhaust on it and I have a 77 f100 to swap over the power disk brakes and power steering.

If your not planning on painting it just yet you could allways color sand it to being a little more life to it for now

Love the truck. That is a hell of a deal! I paid much more for my rotted out longbed. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

If have not done so, let me take the opportunity to welcome you to FTE!!. Yep, it's a keeper. IMO, I would focus on insuring the truck is mechanically sound; meantime, drive the truck while deciding whether or not to consider upgrades. With regards to the paint, I would purchase a mild rubbing compound, then followed up with a wax/polish and possibly find the paint is acceptable and not have to deal it at the current time??

Personally not a fan of lowering; IMO, if you intend keeping the truck and decide on upgrades, suggest research on amount of time, cost, and parts necessary for the project. I drove my 65 for some 40 plus years before upgrading to P/S and front disc. oh what a relief on these ole bones.

Again, welcome, and looking forward to your input!!

Welcome aboard JB, great looking truck. Make sure it's mechanically sound first, then work on upgrades. Enjoy yourself, and the truck.

Hey Jbkurtzer, welcome to FTE! Nice truck!! I have basically the same truck in Wimbledon White. A few months ago I lowered front & rear with the DJM kit. I had already converted to power steering and disc brakes from a 78 F150. For me it was the easiest way to go because it was all bolt on. There are some cool IFS options out there but I'm just not ready to do that. The drop beams lowered it just enough and I like the handling much better than before. Here's a pic:

If not planning to paint it, color sand (using #600 wet/dry paper) its acrylic enamel, then rub it out using DuPont White Polishing Compound, either by hand or w/a buffer.

If by hand, use a large damp sponge to apply it, rinse the sponge out frequently. When the damp compound dries, it will be a lot easier to remove than if you put it on without the damp sponge.

Wear latex gloves so your mitts don't turn blue.

This is the first time I've ever seen a cowl panel with a dent in it, with the hood and door untouched. The cowl moulding probably flew off as a result.

C5TZ-8102328-A .. Cowl Panel Moulding-R/L same / Obsolete

Applications: 1965/66 F100/250 Custom Cabs & Rangers.

HAVEN FORD in Haven KS has 1 = 620-465-2252.

WESLEY OBSOLETE PARTS in Liberty KY has 3 = 606-787-5293.

Before you buy, check with FTE member gangstakr. Several years ago, I sold him two of these, they were NOS, he may still have them.
