Unless there is $5k in the glovebox, keep looking. What is condition of drive line and rest of body?

Welcome to FTE!

I have never worked on one of these "newer" trucks, but I have read on here several times about the degree of difficulty (almost impossibility) of repairing that rusted out drip rail over the windshield.

My advice is to keep looking... And I would not offer even $1,000, by the way, unless you have access to a better cab and the rest of the truck is perfect (which the pics show it is not).

Seems to be running not sure how well though, was going to make time to look at the rest of it frame, fenders steering and suspension etc.

That rust is what worried me the most, this would be my first project and I just dont want to have to cut the whole cab up and cost me more then the truck itself unfortunately

Obviously the truck was built to look this way on purpose, but IMO not fixing the floors and rotted roof are signs of a quickie build to flip. Patina rods are popular, guy is probably fishing for someone looking for that style of truck without a lot of knowledge. Unless there is a lot of modern stuff installed correctly under that skin the price is as stated $5000 too high. All I see is a few hundred dollar 4 link kit.

I would walk away from that one at that price .
I can see a bucket load of money needed on that just for rust repairs .
Look for something more solid .

Don't walk, RUN. That roof is toast so unless your "dream truck" includes the rat rod look, I would look elsewhere. You are in CA so there are LOTS of nicer 56's available for similar money.

Jon - Your ideal find will be a running and driving truck that is safe to operate. Surface rust is understandable and acceptable. Roached out cabs and floor boards, not so much. The brakes and suspension should be usable as bought and same for the engine/cooling systems. Interiors, wheels, and paint are personal preference. You do not want to buy an abandoned project unless you have the money/ability/time to discover and recover from all incomplete or incorrect prior work. Buy the best truck you can afford and let the good folks on FTE help, as you wisely have done.

Enjoy the journey!

Way to much rust for the price. I won't get on the interstate with it the roof may go air born.

All I see is a good parts truck, no way I would part with $8500 if it were coming out of my pocket. The cab I repaired was in about the same condition but only paid $300 for it.

It's not worth 1/2 the asking price. I really wonder why they put in a 4 link with a 6 cyl, and how well it was done? You had better be a skilled body guy to tackle that cab or have very deep pockets. The roof is a difficult major job.
