I better get to my dealer. My 2011 SC, with 35,000 miles, is showing some bubbles, where you open the rear door.

Double check for perforation. That is all Ford Warranty will cover. Unless it is rusted through, they won't help out. That is how mine started as well.

Good idea, maytag906. Let us know what the dealer has to say. I'll be here if you need any assistance.

Last night I got a photo of the root cause for my rust. You can see a rubber drain line. It should have been installed to end up where the finger is pointing and therefore direct the water to the drain. Instead, it was placed between the inner and outer rocker. So water would fill up there until it got high enough to flow through the hole. To add to the issue, if you park on an incline, the water would pool in the corner and never reach the drain!!!

Love that Mercury and the Alberta Plate. Hope ford can take care of you with the repair. It sounds like they might, since they are admitting there was a factory defect with the drain line install.

Thanks, Crystal!
I stopped at a dealer on my way home from work today. Service advisor looked at it, and said Ford won't do anything, until the metal is perforated. So it looks like I'm on my own, for now. It is just starting to show some small bubbles. This is the lower rocker panel, under the passenger side rear door. I'll crawl under it this weekend, and do some evaluating.

Sure thing, maytag906! Come back and tell us what you think after checking things out. I'm always just a PM away if you need my assistance.

This thread illustrates why I spray inside my rockers with Fluid Film yearly!

Although, I'm concerned about that drain hose placement. Where does it come from? Would my 2011 have one?

looks like Ford assembled the truck wrong. Since you have to repair the truck anyway you just as well have them cut the entire rocker panels out and start fresh. I'd bet money the entire inside of the rockers are covered with rust also.

I beginning to think that Ford has a problem with rust, especially in the rocker panels. My 2010 F150XLT SCAB had rust issues starting a couple of years ago. I took it to the dealer about a year ago for especially for bubbling paint inside the DS back door, but it wasn't rusted through so they wouldn't do anything. Now, a year later, it's rusty enough on the underside of the rockers that I was able to push my finger right through.

I even went the route of spraying the undercarriage with Fluid Film before the last 3 winters.
I am really disgusted as this truck has only about 51,000 miles on it. My previous f150 was 15 years old with 140,000 miles and it was in better shape than this when I sold it to buy this. I have an 08 Subaru with that looks practically brand new, even underneath there is no rust at all. If Subaru can do it, why can't Ford?

Hi unibody62,

If you haven't already, I'd recommend returning to the dealership so they can check out the rust now that it has become more severe. Once they've taken a look, I'll be able to research some ways to help. Keep us in the loop.

Thanks Crystal for being supportive. I am really disgusted with the whole problem and was considering just selling it. It is out out the 5 year rust through warranty, so I figure that they won't look into it, even though I did try to get it fixed before the warranty was up. I will let you know when I can make an appointment to have it looked at, but it might be next week before I have the time.

Sounds good, unibody62; I'll hang around here to see when you have any news from the dealership.
