Sounds like the pneumatic cylinder under the yellow cap is Fawlty. (Sorry, couldn't help myself. )

They thought about that. They do leave the cap out of the rack upright slots, and there is plenty of room to stick your hand in there on your way up (even with gloves on). With one one each side, you can even choose if you want to be left handed or right handed.

Feels more like a spring in there,, that is pushing on the end of the step cover causing it to **** in the tubes. Lubeing it hasn't helped.

It apparently didn't work out on the 1st generation Avalanche so why not try it on the 2015 GM twins.

My bad, I was thinking of the tailgate release.
I do also like chevy's solution more than Fords, though Ford's offers much better footing for those not as nimble. A lower stock suspension (at least on 2wd) or lower bedsides would be nice. I'd be tempted to sell the bed off one and put a stake body on. Now that it's AL I bet I could almost pull off an even trade!
