These are supposed to be 2.5" wide non cut out fender flares. Widest non cut outs iv seen so far. It would be nice if they had a better product image.

http://www.andysautosport.com/produc...roduct Details
they can be found through summit and other retailers, but they are sold in a set of 4, andys said they could get them in a set of 2

I was messing around with the power steering on that section of frame I have. The 05 450 box uses 3/4" bolts. quite a bit bigger than the obs. It's not a big deal to enlarge the hole in the frame to 3/4, but the plate inside the frame to keep it from collapsing when the ps box is tightened is a pain to drill. The bottom hole drilled fine since the plate wraps almost a full 360 around the bolt, just took some time. The next bottom rear hole, doenst wrap fully around the bolt so the but just snags and wedges it self in.

after looking at it, i realized it probably wouldnt be to hard to bend the C open to a larger diameter. frame hole was drilled to 3/4 on the inside, and slightly larger on the outside. and then I just hammered 2 metal bars through it, and opened up the bracket. the first was 0.6xx and the 2nd 0.82x according to the micrometer. The sd bolt slid right in, and that was actually a lot easier than messing around drilling it out and making that plate thin.

drill and steel bar

Bolts in

tools of the trade

with the bolts in, I could bolt the box with one, and grind the cross member until the other bolt lined up with the ps box. It didn't too much grinding for it to clear.

pitman arm just clears

the top bolt will need a new hole, and some welding to fill the gap. I beleive that is only the case with 450/550 sd steering boxes. the 3/4 and 1 tons, should have the same bolt pattern, the SD will just need larger holes.

Now, just to duplicate my efforts with the rest of the truck in the way

Might also check Broncograveyard for the flares. I think they sold the front and rears separately

I know you did some comparing of the 2 frames but didn't see an answer. Would the OBS body have easily fit on the newer frame? Sorry, I haven't made it through all the pages yet but am dying to know.

Yes, the frame was stretched. Along with the chassis wire harness, via a lot of butt connectors. and the cab harness. Not very professional in my opinion. the frame looks tough though. extra steel was added on the inside and welded.

the sd was a rc and the obs was a cc. Idk if I could of put the cc cab on the sd frame without lengthening the cab portion of the frame, since the frame sits higher after the cab. Might of been clearance issues w frame and floor. I never measured distances from cab mount to cab mount comparing, but i do know the sd frames are a little wider. Id imagine it could be done easily enough. Modify/build brackets on the frame for front cab mounts and rad support. The rear cab mounts us the crossmember. could probably just drill 2 new holes, moving or adding the crossmember if needed.

Since the transmission was already out, and power steering lines undone:

I pulled the engine saturday night. The HF hoist didn't go high enough, nor did I trust it at max height w a 7.3 on it.

I should have plenty of room to work on getting the 05 450 steering gear box in now. Plus one bolt was broke in the manifold, so I have all new Ford manifold bolts, and gaskets. That will all be easier with the engine out. Maybe I will put the headstuds and pushrods in that I bought a few years ago, and order some other goodies while i am at it.

I love getting these engines out on a stand! I have to pull one out of a '01 SD soon and do a complete reseal, new oil pan, injector o-rings, etc. Lookin good though Corey! Can't wait to see this one come together! This is gonna be an awesome rig!

I can't wait to see this come together either. It seems to keep coming further and further apart lol.

I will probably go through and reseal it, I think I am about ready to send Jim some $$ and cores. That,s the plan anyways. 1 pin on for GP on vc plug is burnt. The engine actually looks nice, and everything comes apart nice. Other than the animal nest and fuel i spilled in the valley, it looks like it was a dry engine, but IDK much about it. It has been sitting for a good few years. I will probably do a compression test on it tonight.

Compression checked the engine last night. all cylinders were around the 400psi mark except #5. That was 360+. right at that 10% mark... It obviously was a cold engine. that should be worst case. I guess it checks out.
