Mine has been mad for 39 years but if she knew what I've spent on the Mare I would be in serious trouble.

I've got a '97 auto with 3.55's. stock 'cept for intake and muffler delete. Can't tell you how it'll pull on a long grade on the interstate...... but, i've been pulling my 31' nomad (7,800 lbs dry) on the beach for years. No, it aint fast, but always gets the job done. I've never been off LI with the trailer and the roads are kind of flat here. The only thing lacking is acceleration with the load on it. Don't really know how it would be on the interstate though. I'd do what one of the other members said first, if you don't have the big bucks to throw at it, just get it running right. I think you'll be Ok. Geeze I remember dad pulling a big *** camper with his pontiac safari wagon.

Yeah flat ground are the key words there. Now try that same thing up a 23% grade slope. Theres one here on the western slope of colorado that you cant even see half way up it looking out the windshield.

So I got the trany diagnosed. Will need a rebuild. So I bought a tranny here in town. Its an aftermarket tranny they make here at their shop. They rate it at 700hp and have a 2 year 25k mile warrenty. 3k out the door with them unistalling the old one and installing the new one. Should have my truck back tomorow. Not what I wanted to pay but the motor runs strong and as long as Im not stupid with it. This truck should last me another 500k miles. Ill take it for 8k total into a truck.

Could buy a diesel site one for 3400...

I highly doubt that other one would really handle 500 much less 700.

They know you'll never put 700 hp to it. Although 700 tq is doable. For the average joe anyway

I honestly dont think Ill ever be close to the 700hp range. I should end up at about 350 ish or so max. Torque I have no clue. I saw all the parts theyre replacing in my tranny with steel parts and its a decent amount. Ill post a pic of the spec sheet tomorow for you guys to look over. I woulda went with a diesel site tranny but theres alot thats prohibiting that. 1 I dont have time to do the swap, 2 I dont have money for the shipping, 3 theyre gonna keep my core fee untill I ship my old one, 4 I was recommended to here by a couple of my buddies who have used them. 5 I had 3k total to put towards a tranny, Total, taxes etc install everything 3k is what I had to spend. 6 I need this truck for next weekend. This was my option. If I got burned then Ill sell the truck and get my 8k invested in it back. I have paperwork saying I have a brand new performance tranny. The tow package was just installed, the interior looks great, theres no chip, and the engine speaks for itself, its still a damn good engine. My truck is what everyone is looking for in an old diesel. Unmolested and unlifted.

First of all, I am Definitely NOT an expert or remotely close to an expert on the matter . My 96 is basically stock with 5sp. It does have stacks, and just did the 6637 today. Mine seems to do alright pulling the boat even up hill. This was before the 6637. Havent gotten to try pulling the boat with the 6637 as I just did that today!!!!
I admit, I don t push tooo hard on the pedal.
