Ok so here is a scenario I was faced with today. The truck I have has some serious rust issues and my wife found someone selling a truck minus engine, trans and some other odds and ends. Well after looking at it I concluded that it wouldn't be worth it for me to just put my motor and trans in it cause I would still be left with the same amount of work. He could see I was deciding against the truck so he offered me the one truck I came to see and another he had in back for $1K. The first truck is a '71 F100 sport custom 2WD. This is the one with the motor and trans missing. The second one he is throwing in is a '70 F250 CS that has almost no rust (hole in passenger fender is the exception) and a little surface rust, the motor does not run but the interior is fantastic.

So here is the question, what is a non running 390 and C6 tranny worth? Also would it be worth my time to part out my current truck? If I can get my money back from selling the motor and trans and whatever parts are salvagable I might consider doing it and putting my 429 into the F250.

Depends how "non-running" it is.

If it's assembled, crusty, and hasn't or doesn't turn over then I'd be only at $100 for the engine and $75 for the trans. If I can hear the engine run, then $200 to $250. I'd be at $150 to $175 for a running C6.

I'd offer $300 to $350 for a running package deal and take both off your hands.

So it wouldn't be unrealistic to ask $250 for the combo?

Running or not running? That is the question.

I'm taking a risk by buying what might be lunks of steel that are unusable. Make me a deal.
