Then I went into the back where I was experiencing the same thing. When I pulled that one apart, it looked like I was working on an oil rig. The force of the water knocked me back a bit. I promptly cleared the rain barrel collector. The water now goes where it is suppose to.
As for the basement, I got pretty lucky with only a small amount of water. When it got really dark out, I hurried to basement access. I have 3 sand bags for this. Placed the bags down and it minimizes what comes in. The main problem is the door is about 1 inch below grade. When the front gutter overflows, it dumps into the lower parking area aka the vehicle work station. This in turns does not really run to the street or towards the house but there is a very small low spot in which some of the water will go towards the door. It use to be worse when we first moved in year ago. The last owner didn't care and had a 1/2 inch sheet of plywood for the door and no drainage away from the house. Every time it rained the basement would have about 3 to 5 inches of water in spots. I got most of it fixed. Now I just get some small amount of seepage from the door area which can be quickly shop vac'ed and pumped out without any issue.
One of my projects is to basically cut the door and jam down. Add some masonry building supplies under the sill plate. The problem is I am taking a 58 inch tall door to about 55 inches. This makes the hole smaller and harder to get stuff out of the basement when the time comes. I wish I could lower the grade of the rest of the area but the grade is already level with the street. The fun of living on a hill.
Enough about my rain water woes. TJC good luck trying to truck diagnosed and fixed if needed.

This Monday $#!t has got to stop. It seems like it comes every week at the same time.
Happy Monday New Jersey. Just think. The official start of Summer starts on Friday.
