Compare the cost of lower end sets to high end sets.HSS sets cost a lot more than the carbon steel sets.

You guys show me how old I am. Here's the Craftsman full set in its walnut box that the wife bought me for college graduation -- 45 years ago.
And older yet, here's the 1950s (I'll guess) Ace brand hardware store tap and die full displace case I bought at auction a few years ago. These are NOS, and don't get used. But the Craftsman set sure does. Stu

I have the Sears set and I can't live without it. Good to reform threads without cutting metal. Gaps to collect doo-doo work great to chase threads in my engine blocks before assembly.
