2008 Expedition EL Retractable Running Board problem
The driver's side power deployable running board was not closing. The motor kept trying to close the board but it would never close. I brought itto the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong, so they said theywould have to replace it all for around $2000. I said 'no' to this and thenthey somehow disabled both running boards in the open position. When I look atthe Setup message center I see the Running Board options, Auto, On, Off, butI'm not able to choose any of them, so I'm not sure how they were able to keepthe boards open.
Anyway, I have now removed the driver's side board to clean and lubricate it.
Is there a way after fully lubricating all the moving parts to manually openand close the board without opening up or removing the board's motor?
I don't really want to go back to that dealership to ask them to re-enable the boards so I can test them. Any ideas how they might have disabled them in the open position?
Thanks,
Don<o></o>

Can anyone tell me what the running board fuse is? When I look in the owner's manual I do not see a fuse for the running boards. Is it named something else?
Here's a link to the owners manual I'm using, pages 303-310

pappadon56,
I looked at my 2007 Navigator service manual and it shows fuse location for foldup running boards are located in the 'battery junction box' (located near radiator).
Fuse #14 and #27 are for the running boards. I don't know what else those fuses send power to.
Maybe your truck is the same.
Good luck,
Richard

Been having some trouble with my boards occassionally as well- if they didn't close when I exited the vehicle and shut the door, I would open the door, and it would drop half an inch, close the door and use my foor to help guide it up- almost like a spotter on your final rep before dropping the bar. Other times, it works just fine...

I had this happen for a while on mine. had to open the door and use my foot to help it lift the board up. Dealer finally took a good look at it and ended up doing a good cleaning of it. Worked fine after that.
It did take 2/3 trips complaining about it to the dealer. Each time they would try it it would work.
