Ok, not a great day at the jy , because it rained 2 hours after I got there...I would have finished,, but I was soaked to the core...

.I did get a hood latch for my hood lock for Bandit
I got the transmission tunnel cover...it isn't the auto one, but it will make do for now.

I got almost everything unbolted... My sawszall blades were not up to the task of those ubolts.....not even close..... Next week, I should be able to unbolt 3 bolts and a shock and cut 1 ubolt off and I should be good to go. Rich, what blades do I need lol

It turns out the replacement bed for the Ranger wasn't all that great. I had some bodywork to do on it. It's all fixed now. I'm gonna try to have it in primer by the end of the day.

Ok - I've reached exasperation...

A fellow FTE'r was interested in the rear axle I took out of the '87 so I go out to confirm the ratio before we got any further and guess what! The @#%$^&@# thing counts out to a 3.55! I counted it 3 times just to make sure. I KNOW I counted out 4 turns of the pinion to one of the wheel when I started to suspect the gear ratio was not right and counted it more than once. I know that driving on the interstate was terrifying because 3,000 RPM couldn't keep up with traffic.

I'm completely at a loss to explain it and thoroughly embarrassed. The truck is so much better all around. 3,000 rpm is clocking out at 70 mph like all the rpm calculators say it should. Everyone who ridden in it before and after is amazed at how much better it is.

I guess I just ought to tear up a bit of my gearhead credentials and get over it...

Dave, the wheels have to turn exactly together. If one wheel spins more than the other, it'll throw off your measurement. that's why I mark both wheels and make sure I turn them together. I've done that plenty, so don't feel too bad.

Jeff, Lowes sells a blade for demolition work. I don't know what brand they are, but they are white with blue lettering I think on them and they have a picture of a steel I beam on them.
A friend of mine uses them all day long on mobile home frames. He swears by them.
I have a Dewalt cordless grinder with cut off wheels for just such work that you are doing.

Jeff "Red Diablo" blades are better than anything Lowe's (Lenox), Home depot, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Black and Decker or anyone else sells. I have a few brand new blades I will give you.

You can not take a torch into the JY.. even if it is raining. X2 on the cordless grinder with thin 4" cut off wheels....if I go with you next weekend I will bring that as back up.

Ran into Larry and his misses at the Bolivar square monthly car show, he was in his slick ol 32 Ford. I forgot about it again, I want to trailer one bronco or the other there, some day.....

RC and I did it the hard way with a short breaker bar on the 9" we got for Ka'Bluey. We were both wore out by the time we got the rear out of the truck.

The ranger didn't get any primer, but I was bouncing back and forth between that and the Chevy pick up. The bed is a scuff away from being ready for primer and and the front end of the Chevy is well on it's way to being ready for primer, also.

good morning missouri... another day.. cant wait to get to the shop and get started.. i have decided to set the engine back another 6".. i think it will help with clearance issues and give it a better balance too .. will mock-up the running boards before i take the cab back off to do the final welding and clean up... i have to shorten the bed in frt. of the fenders 6" and mold the bedsides around the cab.. hope it looks as good on the truck as it does in my head..

Dang RC. You're really going to town! All I'm gonna do today is sand and paint. ....then sand some more. ....then paint some more.
