I have the Sport SuperCrew with the 3.55 rear and 20" tires. I loaded the program for performance-tow 89 octane. I have 1K miles on the truck and drove it from Upstate NY to CT last week. The drive started at 8 degrees and ended at 40 degrees. I drove 80% highway and while on the highway drove mostly between 75 and 80 mph. I have a Tonneau cover on the back, and a brush guard on the front. I experienced 18.7 mpg over the 250 miles each way. I was at 15 mpg before doing the tune and the road trip. I also no longer have the 90 mph speed limiter, and my truck shifts better. I also bought a K&N Cold Air system but I haven't hooked it up yet. I expect to be about 21 mpg once the weather warms up; which would make me quite happy. I bought 3 tunes. 87 perf-tow, 89 perf-tow, 87 best gas mileage.

So out of curiosity...has anyone ran the 91 octane 5 star tune and actually had 87 octane in the truck?

I wouldn't suggest it Rob, as the knock sensors will retard the timing. I'm not a proponent for having the computer consistently backing the truck off. You're subject to lots of pinging as well. If you want to run 87 octane then load a 87 tune.

Ordered mine yesterday from Chris at 5 star, now the wait begins. Hopefully will see it early next week. Great company to deal with.
87 perf/tow
91 perf/tow
91 performance only

Received my tunes today. Loaded up the 91 perf/tow and went for a drive. Very first thing I noticed was the difference in shifting. It was exactly what I hoped for and was a great improvement. Power was definitely increased and my mpgs actually went up (1.6) during the hour I was driving it.
Pulled over and loaded the 91 performance tune...... I still had a smile on my face when I got home, my wife just laughed and said "I take it you are happy with your new toy!"
Nice smooth shifts and the power is awesome.
Chris at 5 Star was great to work with and I would highly recommended their product.

I went with the X4 because I wanted to keep it clean looking, also the 15's have a boost gauge.
swapping tunes took maybe 2 minutes.
give them a call, I wish I had called sooner!

So it seems as if everyone is buying the x4 unit. My question is will the stock tunes that come directly from them work good or should I purchase from another retailer that was mentioned in some previous posts that offer other tunes? I am sure that I want the X4 unit and there is one on amazon.com that is $329.00 which seems like a really good price.
Thanks

I did not get any stock tunes, 5 star did 3 custom tunes for my truck. Tire size, rear end gearing, factory specs.

sct x4

I have the SCT x4 for my ecoboost 3.5 and 5 star tunes are very good compared to canned tunes but when I bought a couple of SSI tunes, HOLY ****. The ssi 87 tune blew away the 5 star 91 and 93 tunes. I also have AFE 3x3x3.5 SS y pipe, 4 inch AFE SS exhaust, AFE CAI, android head unit, catch can, 2.5 leveling kit on 305/55/20s, 1.25 billet wheel spacers and air bags for towing. I know for the ecoboost nothing beats the SSI but nothing wrong with 5 star either

Ok I think I understand now, the sct settings are good but other companies have tuned it way better to its full potential. Thanks

What were the big improvement over your 5 star tunes? Looks like they are still working on tunes for the 2015 EB? They definitely charge more for their tunes too.
