Rear wheel seals... 1990 E350 SRW Dana 60
Hey guys,
I'm going to replace the rear wheel seal and brakes on my 90 E350 SRW. I bought new seals from Ford, Motorcraft of course. I also got the metal axle flange gaskets, Fel-Pro 55328. I'm going to pull the diff cover and replace that gasket as well.
I know the axle flange bolts are 80 ft. lbs. Is there anything else I should know to do this job right so they don't leak again? I'm not sure if there is a torque spec on the rear spindle nut.

A Hayes or Chilton manual will have all the specs you need for this job. If you are going to do much work on it yourself, a book is a good investment anyway. You will need a special socket for the spindle nut, parts stores rent them cheap. When the nut goes back on, it gets torqued to a certain amount (in the book) and then backed off a click or two or three(in the book). The brakes are pretty strait forward. Do one side at a time so you can look at the other side when you have a question.

This is for a Sterling 10.5, but they are the same as yours. Some useful info here.

It has the word "Dana" stamped on the 10 bolt diff cover and the fill plug is in the cover, not the axle housing.
The spindle nut is the one piece ratcheting type. Best info I found online was torque to 50 ft lbs. and then back off 8 clicks for used bearings.
The job is done, but I still need to fill the diff with oil and take it for a test drive. I ran out of time and had to go to work. I will report back after I finish it.

I was reluctant to use any info for a Sterling on my Dana 60 to be honest.
