The EPIC FTE Houston-Roanoke Excursion of EPIC proportions to get APOCS rig home thread... EPIC!!!!!

So going to to be driving from Houston to Roanoke to get my rig home in the next 2-4 weeks and I can do it one of 2 ways:

1. Show up, high five Razzi and drive straight home.

2. Show up, hang out with Razzi and Matt, see my family in Tyler for a few days and hit up fellow FTErs on the way home to get some pics and meet some people.

I like option 2.

So where do you live, what do you offer (ease of ingress/egress of highway, strippers, biggest ball of yarn) and when should we do this? My birthday is on the 24th and more importantly my wife's is on the 16th so I'm thinking the 25th or so I fly out of ROA...

OFFICIAL ROUTE THUS FAR:
Houston: Matt, Razzi

Tyler: Family

!!!!!!Places go here!!!!!!!!!

Roanoke

So you mentioned getting to Fort Hood, you still planning that? I'm about 180 miles north west of Houston. So not exactly the direction but if you're going to the Hood, I'm only about 45 minutes north.
So Waco is always exciting, Baylor beauties galore (I know cuz I recently married one) and it's the birth place of Dr Pepper. We also have the Texas Ranger Museum, who can resist right?! But if you need to stay the night before heading to Tyler, I have a guest room. Let me know!

Those roads are snow and ice covered.
You should head East on I-10 then SOUTH on I-75 to Orlando.. head to the Cape for a shot of your Ex next to the Space Shuttle !
We have a few attractions here and then it's a clean shot North on I-95.

I work with someone who has family in Roanoke, the've worked for the RR there since the early 19xxs. Hopefully you aren't impacted by the relocation by NS

I vote for the coastal southern route myself. With the cold/snow/ice of anywhere north, I would rather stay south and make a few stops for coastal scenery along the way.

Take a detour northwest and come see us in Colorado. We can offer snow, ice, GREAT off-roading, brats on the back deck (yep, even in the snow), and a ride around on the horses.

Really ought to go somewhere you can check out the 4x4 capabilities. More North, More Better.

Oh, we're taking him somewhere to test it all before he leaves. Gotta make sure it works properly before it strands him where he really needs it.

The tires on the other hand, those need replacing soon. Looks like the PO ran them back and forth between over and under inflated, all the siping is gone - just huge flat tread blocks left.

That and I need to know how to use it. The only thing I've ever operated were military vehicles so nothing but manual levers

No worries man.

Gettysburg is always a good place to visit for a weekend and check everything out. I have given many tours of the battlefields now in the X. The PA speaker makes it fun to mess with some of the tourist too....If you or anyone else from here decide to hit up the area for a few days, I can show you all around and we can even fire off a few hundred rounds at my shooting range.
