timing

I had a mechanic put a new distributor in my 1991 ford F700 429 7.0 truck. Now the truck has very little power and is backfiring. I believe the timing is off. How do I get the timing correct again? Thank you for your time and help.

Ummm well...do you have a timing light? If not you can aim for the highest vacuum if you have a gauge. If you don't have either of those you can aim for the highest idle rpm if you have a tach. If none of that will work just loosen the clamp and rotate it a little bit at a time, going for a test drive between each adjustment.
